Bio

Feiler grew out of late nights in a cramped college house in Los Angeles, but bloomed only after moving to an aging, vine-covered house in the rural woods of northern Georgia. Along the way, Feiler – the solo project of LA-based singer/songwriter/producer Austin Smith – developed a sound that rides the line between earnest whisper folk and shimmering electronic pop, all with an undercurrent of urgent and emotional songwriting uniting the two spheres. Now, Feiler emerges with a collection of songs that seek to map a path through a chaotic and confusing world.

After living and performing in LA for a few years beforehand, Smith felt himself burning out. While he had studied songwriting in a prestigious university program, started and played with a number of musical projects, and even won a competition that saw him open for the Beach Boys, he felt frustrated and unsatisfied by his musical output.

Smith stepped away, retreating to a near-abandoned house in the Blue Ridge Mountains of northern Georgia. Cobbling together a studio from duct tape, blankets, and anything else the house could offer, he recorded a collection of deeply introspective songs that explore the boundary between one and two, between solitude and communication, between fingerpicked guitar and pulsing kick drums.

Feiler is an effort to create honestly in an insecure and chaotic world. The songs explore intimate details of mental health, broken relationships, and finding a way through a life we were not taught to navigate. With a collection of forthcoming singles and an EP looming, we can expect more from Feiler soon.
